Sneak peek: episode 1
For our inaugural episode, I interviewed Dr. Jennifer Ball, professor of Medieval Studies at Brooklyn College and professor and executive officer in the PhD program in Art History at the CUNY Graduate Center. Dr. Ball has taught in the CUNY system for over 21 years, and I was excited to hear how her experience teaching undergrads at Brooklyn College has shaped both her pedagogy and her own personal research.
How do you teach 3D objects in the classroom? Dr. Ball said scale is key: making sure students have a sense of the dimensions of the object being discussed. For example, is it the size of a sheet of paper? Would it be easily visible from a distance? Putting the object into a physical space is helpful starting point.
The object she chose as a (current) favorite for teaching is the 12th century Savelot Triptych from the collection of the Morgan Museum and Library.
